Container Spotlight: Qiyun Mountain Camp

Mount Qiyun, located in Xiuning Country, China, is known as the birthplace of Taoism.

Within this beautiful mountain side sits the Qiyun Mountain Camp, a large adventure and extreme sport park.

What makes this park unique is that every aspect of it is made entirely with shipping containers.

Qiyun Mountain Camp

Located in Huangshan, Anhui, the camp is the largest natural adventure/extreme sport park in the country, covering about 75,000 square feet.

The park includes:

  • An entrance pavilion
  • A market
  • A restaurant

  • Zip-line area

Visible from the main street, the entrance way opens Qiyun Mountain Camp to the public with turnstiles, a ticket booth and information centers.

Further in, park goers have access to the market with various shops, cafes, service areas, and restrooms.

There are also upper levels that connect to the surrounding landscape.

The Benefits of Shipping Container Architecture

The Qiyun Mountain Camp is a very ambitious design, but it’s not the only thing that has been made out of shipping containers.

We’ve previously explored how several buildings and facilities have been made out of shipping containers, from hotels to hospitals and more.

But why are people and businesses using shipping containers to build?

Because shipping containers are made of steel, they are incredibly durable and strong. They can withstand harsh weather conditions, which make them great for areas prone to natural disasters.

Shipping containers are also ecofriendly, thanks to their ability to be recycled and repurposed for other things. In some cases, they are also more cost efficient than traditional building.

Lastly, as seen with the Qiyun Mountain Camp, shipping container architecture can be quite unique. These types of buildings showcase creative design which can be very appealing.

We discuss how shipping containers become used as other things in one of our blogs.
