We prorate your rent by the day after the first 28-day billing cycle, so you don't have to pay for a full month when you only have your mobile containers and offices for a few days.

While other companies may be able to do small container modifications, most don't have an in-house fabrication staff or 90,000 sq ft fabrication facility like we do. As a result, they outsource the work on your custom container, so you don't know who's actually building it.

Rest assured knowing your modified shipping container will be built to the highest quality standards. Our certified weld and quality control inspectors check every step of the fabrication process to ensure everything is structurally sound and built to your specifications.

RESEDA, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- It's an issue homeless shelters throughout Southern California face - best serving the population inside the facility without having a detrimental impact on the community right outside.

At the Tiny Home Village in Reseda, some residents have complained about tents and vehicles popping up outside the shelter, which isn't allowed under the city ordinance, 41.18.

"These are people that are street people, that are on drugs and so forth and so on, and they just keep doing what they're doing because that's all they know how to do. If they feel too closed in... me too. I will come out and sit in my car," said Patricia Lynn Chapman, who is homeless and lives at the Reseda Tiny Home Village.

The 66-year-old it has helped her get back on her feet by providing a safe place, hot meals, a shower, and legal and medical services.

But, the facility has rules. No drugs, alcohol, or weapons are allowed inside. Some of the residents who live nearby tell Eyewitness News some struggle with the rules.

"She had nowhere to put her stuff because they towed her car out of here. That's was the only thing she could think of doing to protect her stuff. That's just temporary, she's waiting to get a storage," Chapman said.

Hope of the Valley is the service provider who says they've been able to get storage units for residents of the shelter whose belongings don't fit inside - to prevent them from being left outside. They're working to remove any vehicles being used for housing or for illegal activity.

"Do I believe that permanent and supportive and affordable housing is the ultimate answer? I do. But, the streets cannot and should not be the waiting room for permanent housing. We must bring people indoors and that is the function and purpose of interim housing," said Ken Craft, the founder and CEO of Hope of The Valley Rescue Mission.

"We make a promise to a community when we bring a cabin community, or another intervention there... There's benefits to the community as well. They're getting those folks off of the streets nearby. It's a bargain to some extent where you're also saying, we're not going to let this become a magnet for encampments," said Los Angeles City Councilman Bob Blumenfield, who represents Reseda.

"They're trying to get the people off the street. So they're not dying out there. If they make a difference in just one life, it matters," Chapman said.

The city and service providers say they want to know about any issues or violations of 41.18 outside city shelters so they can be addressed immediately. The best thing to do is contact the manager of that facility, the service provider, or your councilmember's office.

It’s a tradition that dates back to the 1970s at California State University, Northridge — one that was suspended for two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic. CSUN’s 37th Annual Powwow returns on Saturday, Nov. 26, to celebrate American Indian communities of Los Angeles and throughout Southern California.

The Powwow is scheduled to take place from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. in the Sierra Quad, located in the center of campus at 18111 Nordhoff St. in Northridge.

“More than 250,000 American Indians live in Los Angeles County,” said Scott Andrews, director of the CSUN American Indian Studies Program. “That population is spread across a large geographic area, and Powwows are one way members of that community stay in touch with each other.”

The event — hosted by the College of Humanities‘ American Indian Studies Program and CSUN’s American Indian Students Association — will feature Indigenous music and dance.

The CSUN Powwow will begin at 11 a.m. with a Gourd Ceremony, a ceremonial dance, followed at 12:30 p.m. by the Grand Entry, which includes a procession of all the dancers in traditional dress and regalia, opening blessings, greetings and songs.

“Powwow music and dance styles mostly reflect the cultural traditions of Southern and Northern Plains tribes, but they have evolved to include Native traditions from their local areas,” Andrews said. “For instance, members of the Fernandeño Tataviam Band of Mission Indians will open our event with songs in their distinct Southern California style and language.”

The event will include arts and crafts vendors, children’s activity areas and food offerings such as frybread. Vendors will be selling clothes, jewelry and souvenirs. The variety of crafts will include educational material provided by the Tataviam, the historic tribe of northern Los Angeles County.

The Powwow is open to the public, and admission is free. Public parking will be available in the B3 Parking lot, off Reseda Boulevard and Prairie Street.

For more information, contact the CSUN American Indian Studies Program at (818) 677-5030 or via email at csunaisa@gmail.com.

Cleveland Charter High School went back to the drawing board. Literally.

And the result is spectacular.

Completing four years of construction, officials from the Los Angeles Unified School District and the Reseda school itself were proud to unveil the campus’ $170 million modernization on Friday, Sept. 16.

“Today is truly a celebration for the Cleveland High School community,” Superintendent Alberto M. Carvalho said before the event. “These multimillion dollar investments represent an intensified focus on our students, as well as highlight the importance of modernizing our schools.”

The project included:

The endeavor included 176,200 square feet of improvements to the campus. Along with all the new structures, remaining buildings also got a bright new facelifts — with the total package embracing the school’s original mid-century design tone and texture.

“Today, we honor Cleveland Charter High School’s rich and diverse culture and history,” LAUSD boardmember Scott Schmerelson said. “This beautiful modernization project will provide a new state of the art facility that will support our students’ success for generations to come. Our students, teachers and local school community deserve these investments so they can continue with dynamic and innovative teaching and learning.”

Many existing classrooms were also upgraded. Infrastructure improvements included new transportation and maintenance buildings, as well as safety and technological upgrades.

New solar panels were installed atop the new performing arts building, providing 116 kilowatts of renewable energy, according to district officials.

“This comprehensive modernization project is a clear example of the Cleveland community coming together to dream big,” said Cleveland’s principal, Cindy Duong. “Thanks to our partners at Los Angeles Unified, PBWS Architects and Kemp Brothers for responding enthusiastically to make our dreams a reality. We believe all students deserve a quality education and now – thanks to this bond measure – we have facilities that meet that expectation.”

The campus, first opened in 1961, was built to accommodate 1,500 students. But enrollment had more than doubled since then. The new plan was able to do away with the portable classrooms that had been added over the years to respond to that burgeoning student population.

And the new configuration, officials said, allowed for a larger central quad area and additional outdoor gathering sites.

“We are thrilled to provide the Cleveland Charter High School students, staff and community with a modernized campus, replacing temporary bungalows that were installed decades ago, with beautiful, state-of-the-art new and upgraded facilities,” said Chief Facilities Executive Mark Hovatter. “The Cleveland Cavaliers now have a campus that could rival that of any private college.”

LOS ANGELES — Every Saturday in December, the Schiavoni house puts on one of the most extravagant light shows in the valley, and the preparation that goes into it might surprise you.

Ryan and Tara Schiavoni have a quaint house on a lively street in Reseda, the kind where neighbors chat on driveways and kids play in the street — but theirs is definitely the favorite house on the block. The neighborhood waits with baited breath for the annual holiday light show at the Schiavoni house, which is decorated with over 15,000 lights that includes choreographed theme music.

The lawn strobes with 75 dancing bulbs, reindeer animate on the roof, the trees sparkle with stars and flame throwers even light up the night sky. The couple puts on this extravagant 15-minute light show every Saturday in December, to everyone’s delight.

“Everybody remembers that one house, so maybe this is that house for someone else,” Ryan said.

It’s such a big production that the Schiavonis say they start preparing and planning for their light show up to a year in advance — and actively start setting it up two months in advance. To manage all of it, Ryan has a special computer program that coordinates all the lights, and has installed 20 electrical boxes throughout the property.

“All of this is [an] electrical system that I had installed on the house, this was a completely bare side of the house,” Ryan said as he pointed to over nine electric panels on just one side of the house. “Basically I get charged in tier three for the month of December.”

Ryan is so dedicated to this light display and light show, that Tara has a nickname for herself: "A Christmas light widow."

And the pair, who recently got married, even planned their wedding around the scheduling of the light show.

"We decided to get married in July, so that he would have the next few months in the fall to start prepping everything and be ready to go," Tara said.

So, why so much time and dedication to this? Ryan explained that it’s because of an unfulfilled childhood desire to be the most extravagant house on the street, after something his dad said to him.

"'Son, go get your own house, and you can do whatever you want to it,'" Ryan said. "So I finally bought my own house, and here I am."

The show lights up at the Schiavoni house every Saturday in December at 6 p.m. and continues for 15 minutes. Traffic gets backed up, and neighbors eagerly line the street, so it’s wise to arrive a few minutes early and claim a spot front and center.
