ISO shipping containers are standardized cargo containers designed to facilitate the movement of goods across international borders. The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) sets the standards for these containers, and several sizes are available, each designed for specific purposes.

The most common size of ISO shipping container is the 20-foot container, also called a standard container. This container is 20 feet long, 8 feet wide, and 8 feet 6 inches tall. It has a capacity of approximately 1,170 cubic feet and can hold up to 10 standard pallets or about 21,000 pounds of cargo.

The next size up is the 40-foot container, which is twice as long as the 20-foot container. It is also 8 feet wide and 8 feet 6 inches tall. The 40-foot container has a capacity of approximately 2,390 cubic feet and can hold about 42,000 pounds of cargo.

Another size of ISO shipping container is the 40-foot high-cube container, which is similar to the standard 40-foot container but has an additional foot of height. This container is 9 feet 6 inches tall and has a capacity of approximately 2,694 cubic feet. It can hold about 45,000 pounds of cargo.

The standard sizes of ISO shipping containers are designed to meet the needs of different industries and types of cargo. The 20-foot container, 40-foot container, and 40-foot high-cube container are the most commonly used sizes, while smaller sizes like the 10-foot and 8-foot containers are often used for storage and other purposes. By adhering to these standards, shippers can easily transport goods across international borders, making global trade more efficient and cost-effective.
