Fans rush to Ryan Reynolds' defense as Deadpool co-star TJ Miller makes 'ridiculous' claim about him

Ryan Reynolds is among the most famous actors in the world today, and it’s fair to say his role in the Deadpool movies skyrocketed his status in the world of film.

However, being one of the most famous actors has some downsides. Beyond just the dangers and lack of privacy that come with fame, there’s also the broken relationships that can come when you become incredibly famous, like Reynolds has.

Ryan Reynolds is a widely known and beloved actor across the world. (FX Network)

Unfortunately for the Wrexham FC owner, it seems as though Reynolds is a victim of at least one weakened friendship as a result of his fame – at least that seems to be the case according to his former castmate in both Deadpool 1 & Deadpool 2, TJ Miller.

Miller spoke about Reynolds in a recent appearance on Help! With Natalie Cuomo, where he said the lead actor changed following the success of his first outing as a Marvel superhero.

“You first had Ryan Reynolds who, everybody knew who he was, but…he had a lot of movies that were failures or just didn’t do that well,” Miller claims, “Deadpool 1 was a real longshot for him.”

“By Deadpool 2, he was a different person.”

These statements by Miller ended up making him go semi-viral online, but not for good reasons. To start, many fans of Reynolds made sure to remind the stand-up comic that his former costar was far from a nobody before the Deadpool franchise took off.

“Ryan Reynolds had been in a bunch of movies prior to Deadpool, many of them successful,” said one commenter on X (formerly Twitter) before recalling Reynolds’ starring role in a cult-classic sitcom. “He also starred in Two Guys, a Girl and a Pizza Place.”

Others noted several very popular Reynolds projects that came out before becoming a Marvel mainstay, including National Lampoon’s Van Wilder in 2002, The Proposal and Adventureland in 2009, as well as the animated hits The Croods and Turbo in 2013.

Some posters even noticed people who aren’t big fans of Reynolds call out Miller for his comments, with one X poster saying: “TJ Miller is so unlikable that I’m seeing people who would rather have a foot cut off than see Deadpool 3 step up to defend Ryan Reynolds.”

Another noted the various controversies that Miller has been involved in to slam the comedian.

“Dude called in a fake bomb threat, ruined his own career and is now coming after Ryan like HE’S THE PROBLEM,” the commenter wrote.

Unsurprisingly, TJ Miller will not be reprising his role of Weasel in the upcoming Deadpool & Wolverine, the third instalment in the Ryan Reynolds-led Deadpool trilogy.

LA CROSSE — Rush County Memorial Hospital in La Crosse is not closing. For the past several months, however, the hospital has been working on downsizing to a new designation that will take effect on April 2.

REH designation

Keeping a rural hospital afloat in Kansas can be a difficult operation.

At the end of 2023, the Center for Healthcare Quality and Payment Reform reported that 84 of the state’s 102 rural hospitals recorded financial losses on patient services in 2023; 59 are in jeopardy of closing and 28

are at immediate risk of collapse. Ten have closed since 2005, with Herington Hospital the most recent in October 2023.

With a new federal designation implemented in January 2023, there is a new option — as a Rural Emergency Hospital.

However, as the residents of Rush County are finding out, downsizing is “not a sterile transaction.”

At a Town Hall meeting Feb. 15 in La Crosse, Dr. Robert Ladd, interim director of the Rush County Memorial Hospital, told a large crowd of residents and patrons gathered at the City Auditorium that the hospital’s decision to seek REH designation comes at a cost.

This plan does preserve most of the services that our community uses Dr. Robert Ladd

The REH designation focuses on round-the clock emergency room and observation care and allows for existing laboratory, physical therapy, radiology, outpatient, wellness and clinic services, it does not support longterm care services, which will be closed.

April 2 marks the end of Intermediate Swing Bed, formerly known as Long Term Care. The 13 residents currently living there had been given 60-day notice to find another facility. “This plan does preserve most of the services that our community uses,” said Ladd. Only three patients have been admitted to the hospital since November 2023, Ladd noted.

The transition to REH means that 40 positions, or approximately half of the hospital’s 83-employee staff, will be seeking other employment. “This is not a sterile transaction,” Ladd noted. “Real families are being hurt.”

Ladd explained that the hospital has sought assistance from Kansas WorkforceONE to help those employees with unemployment applications and other benefits.

The new model

As of last count, 19 hospitals in the U.S. have made the transition to REH since the designation became effective. The first to do so in Kansas was South Central Kansas Medical Center in Arkansas City. Mercy Hospital in Moundridge was the second, on Jan. 1, 2023. Kansas Sen. Dr. Roger Marshall, who supports the new designation, had a representative at the meeting in La Crosse.

Part of the designation’s model includes federal funding receipt of $276.233.58 per month in 2024. The additional payment will increase each year by the same percentage as the hospital market basket increase.

Locust Grove Village

The hospital kitchen will be closed, necessitating a new venue to provide Friendship Meals service to the community.

Locust Grove Village, the community’s nursing home, is a separate entity and will not be affected by the change.

Outstanding bond issues

Rush County currently makes annual payments on three bond issues for the hospital of approximately $142,000 per year, including a $5 million bond issue for remodeling the building in November 2009. Those bonds issued through the Build America Bonds program were called in July 2013 and refunded with general obligation bonds Series 2013. The bonds are active through December 2034 and that status will not change.

New Senior Living Co-Op Coming to Maple Grove

The intersection of Maple Grove Parkway and County Road 81 may not look like much now, but in about two years, the empty field that’s currently on that site will be home to empty-nesters.

“This we really consider empty-nester housing, active adult housing,” said Tim Nichols, CEO of Lifestyle Communities.

The company plans to build a new senior living community at that site for people age 62 and older called Artessa Maple Grove at Rush Hollow.

“We’re really focusing on the wants and the needs of the people that otherwise don’t have to sell their home,” Nichols said. “They don’t have a need to move because they have an ailment or they’re frail, elderly. These are active, vibrant individuals.”

The Artessa Maple Grove at Rush Hollow development will include 80 co-op residences (74 apartment-style units and 6 detached villas).

The occupants will own their respective living spaces and share all of the various amenities in the building, such as the fitness studio.

Pricing starts at around $180,000.

“The demand for cooperative living is quite high right now,” said Dena Meyer, president of Artessa Development, a subsidiary of Lifestyle Communities.

Meyer’s role is to bring this project to life. Artessa has developed 43 cooperatives throughout the Twin Cities, and she says this style of living is an attractive option for seniors who are tired of the maintenance associated with single-family homes.

“We have had tremendous interest on this project,” Meyer said. “Not only because of the location, but also just because of the lifestyle and the availability it gives people — from a financial flexibility and freedom — to kind of do all the things that they want to do instead of what they have to do.”

The company officially acquired the land earlier this month. The proximity to shopping and restaurants is another key selling point. Now the next step is to get prospective residents to buy-in.

“We believe that we’ll have a tremendous response from that initial marketing push,” Nichols said.

The developers say they’d like to get about 60 percent of the units sold before they begin construction. There are two informational meetings for prospective buyers on March 20 at the Rush Creek Golf Club in Maple Grove.

The Saskatchewan Rush lacrosse squad is shaking things up.

The National Lacrosse League team has relieved Bruce Alexander from his duties as offensive co-ordinator and assistant coach.

Rush general manager Derek Keenan will return behind the bench, as co-coach, to help head coach and associate GM jimmy Quinlan.

Saskatchewan — with just one win in five games to start the season — is currently in last place in the 15-team NLL.

“I owe it to the players, our staff, our fan base and ownership, to do whatever it takes to turn this ship in the right direction,” Keenan said in a team news release. “We are very close, but close isn’t good enough in the NLL.

“I see so many good things with this young group and I want to take a more hands-on approach. I am excited and look forward to this opportunity.”

While Alexander is gone, Jeremy Tallevi will remain on the bench as the team’s defensive co-ordinator. Meantime, goalie coach Evan Kirk will take on a more active role with the club for the remainder of the season.

POSTPONED GAME RESCHEDULED

The NLL announced this week that the Rush game, previously scheduled for Jan. 13 in Philadelphia, will now take place Thursday, March 28 at 6 p.m. CST. The Rush and Wings will now face off later in the schedule this season after the original date was postponed due to extreme weather conditions affecting travel.

The Rush will now have three games in six days during that stretch, as the eastern road trip sees the squad make stops in New York on March 23, Georgia on March 24 and now Philadelphia on the 28th.

Saskatchewan is back in action on Feb. 3 when Panther City Lacrosse Club is in town. Game-time is 7 p.m. at SaskTel Centre.
